I've been listening to 6/9/76 and I do believe Dancing in the Streets is about the best Phil bassline I've heard. His stuff is always really good to listen to, but it seemed like he just let it loose on this tune. Anybody else have any favorite Phil lines to listen to?

Phil was the perfect complement to Jerry. In '72, he was rough and edgy, and Jerry was rough and edgy. In '73, he was warm and round, Jerry as well. In '74, he was a little thinner, but very atmospheric. Same with Jerry. Phil had an irascible personality, but he was Jerry's bitch, and our music collections are better for it.

But, when you get right down to it, weren't we all Jerry's bitch? When he was on, he was making us all sleep on the top bunk.

8/7/71...hard to handle. i heard this recently of a dicks picks and it's unbelievable. it's not same sounding phil from 73/74, but it's raw and gritty/in your face phil. one of my faves.

Agreed; Most any '73/'74 Eyes is serious Phil Country.

Yes, that is a very Philthy bassline, I thank you for telling me about it. Listening to it, I get the feeling that if you asked Phil, he would tell you that on that night he had a wallet in his back pocket that said 'bad motherfucker' on it.

It's not available to stream on the Archive. Is there a reason for this? I'm downloading it from SpeedingArrow, I will give it a listen and let you know if it kicks my ass.

2-14-68, set 2. After Jerry pushed Phil down the stairs at the Carousel, he kicked it into gear enough for them to use most of the Alligator Jam on Anthem. He and Jerry dance up quite a storm.

"Csll all he wanna, but he can't call me."

Picking it back up after Kreutzmann's solo with his standard intro to kick The Other One into gear on Skullfuck always worked for me.
